What is the ECO4 grant scheme?

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme is a government programme designed to help homeowners and tenants make their homes more energy efficient. The scheme provides financial assistance to vulnerable and low-income householders who want to install energy saving measures in their home. The types of measures that can be funded include loft, roof and wall insulation (with plastering), boiler replacement, electric heating, heat pumps and solar PV. All of which are 100% free.

What is ECO FLEX?

ECO Flex is essentially ECO4 with flexible eligibility – it enables local councils to widen the eligibility criteria for the ECO scheme so that they can identify households that are not in receipt of means-tested benefits but who may benefit from heating and energy saving measures. Under FLEX, households can receive all the benefits of ECO4, all of which are 100% free. If your local council is not offering FLEX and your property is in council tax band A, B, C, or D, call us and enquire about funding from the Great British Insulation Scheme.

How is it free?

The ECO scheme is administered by the main energy companies to improve the energy efficiency of homes in the UK. The energy suppliers are obligated to do this- it does not matter which energy company you are with; this is a government requirement so that they meet their carbon environmental targets and tackle fuel poverty.

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme is a government initiative in the United Kingdom aimed at improving the energy efficiency of homes and reducing carbon emissions. It requires large energy suppliers to provide funding for the installation of energy-saving measures, such as insulation and heating upgrades, in eligible households.
Eligibility for the ECO4 scheme varies depending on factors such as household income, receipt of certain benefits, property type, and geographic location. Typically, households receiving means-tested benefits or living in properties with low energy efficiency ratings are eligible for support.

The ECO4 scheme covers a range of energy efficiency measures, including loft insulation, solid wall insulation, boiler replacements, solar panels and heating system upgrades. An assessment is produced using approved government software which generates recommendation for the property based on data collected about the property at the home survey. The measures to be fitted at the home are based on these recommendations.

To qualify for the ECO4 scheme, at least one person living at the property has to be in receipt of, or have received within the past 6 months, one of the benefits listed below:

1) Income based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
2) Income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
3) Income Support (IS)
4) Pension Credit Guarantee Credit (PCGC)

10) Child Benefit (subject to income caps and composition
